Sheikh Fathi Yakan passed away of natural causes Saturday 13 June 2009. As a lifelong scholar of Islamic studies, Dr Yakan was the Head of the Islamic Labor Front in Lebanon.

He served thirty years as General Secretary of the Lebanese Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya, until 1992 when he won a seat in the Lebanese parliament.

A political activist and prolific author, Dr Yakan worked to establish cooperation amongst political parties in the region and sought to unite Sunnis and Shiites within an Islamic community.

He described the Lebanese victory of 2006 as one for Lebanon and the whole nation, Sunnis before Shiites, “because the project of the resistance is not only Lebanese project but a global.

Profil Dr Fathi Yakan

Dr Fathi Yakan ialah ulama dan pendakwah Islam yang terkemuka. Beliau dilahirkan di Tarablas pada tahun 1933 dan telah mendapat ijazah kedoktoran dalam pengajian Islam dan Bahasa Arab. Beliau telah terlibat dengan kerja-kerja Islam sejak tahun 50an dan telah menubuhkan Jamaah Islam pada awal 60an. Beliau telah menjawat ketua umum di dalam Jamaah Islam sehinggalah pada tahun 1992.

Pada tahun tersebut beliau telah bertanding dan telah memenangi kerusi parlimen. Beliau kekal sehinggalah pada tahun 1996. Di tahun-tahun kebelakangan ini beliau telah mengetuai jabhah Islami. Beliau telah mengambil peranan penting untuk menghentikan peperangan Mukhayyam Narul Barid di utara Lubnan diantara Tentera Lubnan dan Jamaah Fathul Islami pd tahun 2007.

Beliau telah banyak mengarang buku di antaranya Maza Ya'ni Intiami lil Islam, al-Mutasiqituna Fala Toriq Da'wah, Kaifu Nadwu lil Islam dan lain-lain yang melebihi 35 buah buku.

Kita kehilangan satu permata Islam yang bersinar ke seluruh dunia. Tetapi kematiannya tidak akan melenyapkan terus semangat ruhul jadid yang sentiasa segar dalam ingatan hasil kata-katanya dalam hampir 35 buah bukunya.

Tidak sepatutnya bagi penegak agama Islam merasa lemah dengan kematian beliau tetapi perjuangan perlu diteruskan oleh kita yang tinggal ini sebagaimana dengan kewafatan Nabi Muhammad S.A.W yang menyaksikan kepintaran Saidina Abu Bakar dalam menyelesaikan masalah yang timbul. Firman Allah S.W.T yang bermaksud :

Muhammad itu tidak lain hanyalah seorang rasul. Sesungguhnya telah berlalu sebelumnya beberapa orang rasul . Apakah jika baginda wafat atau dibunuh maka kamu akan berpaling tadah (murtad)?. Sesiapa yang berpaling tadah maka dia tidak dapat mendatangkan mudharat kepada Allah sedikit pun. Dan Allah akan memberi balasan kepada mereka yang bersyukur. Surah Al-Imran Ayat 144.

Kesimpulan

Dr Fathi Yakan telah meninggal dunia di hospital di Lubnan setelah dimasukkan ke hospital beberapa hari yang lepas kerana menghadapi masalah kesihatan yang teruk. Beliau telah menghembuskan nafasnya terakhir ketika mencapai umur 76 tahun di hospital.

Pihak hospital telah menyatakan bahawa beliau terkena serangan angin ahmar pada otaknya sehingga menyebabkan beliau telah mati klinikal (clinical death). Namun pihak perubatan dan pihak keluarga enggan mencabut alat bantuan hayat dari tubuh beliau.

Siapa yang tidak kenal Dr. Fathi Yakan. Kitab karangannya yang terkenal Apa Erti Saya Menganut Islam (atau lebih terkenal dengan panggilan 'Maza Yakni') menjadi rujukan kebanyakan kumpulan usrah pelbagai wadah.

Kini beliau sudah pergi meninggalkan kita. Permata dakwah ini sudah tiada. Moga-moga akan lahir lebih ramai tokoh dakwah sehebat Dr Fathi Yakan. Ulama agung yang mampu menjulang martabat Islam setinggi-tingginya.
